How We Investigate

Every claim we publish is sourced to a primary document that can be independently verified. We do not report from press releases, secondary sources, or unverified testimony alone. This page explains exactly how our investigations are built.

How We Obtain Documents

We obtain primary source documents through four channels: court discovery records made public through litigation; regulatory agency archives including EPA enforcement files, OSHA inspection records, and NIOSH research archives; academic document repositories, particularly occupational health research programs; and direct document submissions from confidential sources including former corporate employees, union safety officers, and attorneys with access to litigation discovery.

We verify the authenticity of every document before reporting from it. Documents recovered through litigation are cross-referenced against court dockets. Where possible, originals are cross-referenced against copies held in academic or regulatory archives.

Our Verification Process

Step 1

Document acquisition

We identify and obtain primary source documents from court archives, regulatory filings, academic repositories, and confidential source submissions.

Step 2

Independent verification

Each document is verified by at least two editorial team members. Claims are cross-referenced against known secondary literature and, where possible, against other primary sources.

Step 3

Expert review

Medical claims are reviewed by Dr. Patricia Hennessey, MD (pulmonology). Legal claims are reviewed by James Alderton, Esq. (mesothelioma litigation, 22 years). Both have full editorial independence.

The Editorial Team

Our investigations are produced by a team of five specialist journalists with backgrounds in occupational health, environmental law, science journalism, and worker safety reporting.
